SALvest LLC taps the power of the diaspora to rebuild Sierra Leone

February 16th, 2011

Lisle, IL – (February 14, 2011) – SALvest LLC, a U.S. based investment group is excited to announce the launch of its membership drive.

SALvest LLC was founded by a group of native and DNA tested Sierra Leoneans, inspired to participate in the rebuilding and development of Sierra Leone. Company visionary, Vidal Smith, set out to form an organization of like-minded individuals that would, through joint investments, take on projects aimed at promoting business, entrepreneurship and employment in Sierra Leone. The company headquarters will be located in the U.S. with subsidiaries operating throughout Sierra Leone.

With nearly 5% economic growth on the African continent in 2010, this is a part of the world ripe for further development. And Sierra Leone is a country undergoing a massive transition. This West African country with a population of 6 million, boasts many natural resources, an eager workforce, and a stable democratic political system.

A firm commitment from the government and improved business registration services indicate the business climate is ready for private investors across multiple industries. “The time for change is now,” says founding member, Vidal Smith. “Sierra Leone is a country, rich in human and natural resources.”

SALvest will use its pooled financial and human resources to invest primarily in the agriculture, energy, manufacturing, real estate, retail, and tourism industries, which combined, accounted for over three-quarters of the country’s 11 billion dollar GDP in 2010.

In addition to business ventures throughout the country, SALvest is committed to social causes and philanthropy. In this vein, the company will participate in targeted partnerships with local educational and charitable organizations committed to the welfare of the Sierra Leone community.

The group seeks a maximum of 200 investors to participate in the scaled investments that support their objectives. Please visit the company website at www.salvestllc.com for details on how to participate.

Vintage in New York

July 28th, 2010

Somaya Oueslati has two loves: music and fashion. She’s built a successful career managing musicians including, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Tabi Bonni and UK R&B star, Omar. Now, Somaya is turning to her other love. She’s putting the c in chic, bringing vintage clothing to New York.

Though she is a native of Tunisia, in North Africa, Somaya grew up in Sweden before relocating to the United States, soaking up the best of all cultures. Recent trips home have caused the fashionista lying dormant in her subconscious to awaken. Fascinated with fashion since she was a child, Somaya has decided the time is right to open a boutique. Catering to the fashion conscious, and money minded shopper, SoSo (the first two letters of Somaya and her twin sister’s names) will be based in Brooklyn, New York.

The boutique, opening early-2010, will feature vintage clothing, accessories and shoes. There will also be authentic, locally crafted items from Tunisia, as well as natural bath and body products. Read more
